Late on Thursday evening, Chelsea FC beat Manchester United 4:3 (2:2) in a spectacular match. Conor Gallagher (4th minute) and Cole Palmer (19th) gave the Blues an early lead, but Alejandro Garnacho (34th, 67th) and Bruno Fernandes (39th) initially turned the game in favor of the Red Devils with their goals. But Palmer had the last word (90.+10, 90.+11), who shook Stamford Bridge with a converted penalty and a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area. Chelsea won against Manchester United for the first time since 2017.

"This should be a turning point for the fans' trust in the team," said Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Londoners are playing a season to forget and are only tenth in the Premier League table.

But the pressure is also increasing at Manchester United. For United it was already the twelfth defeat of the season, coach Erik ten Hag's team is in danger of missing out on the Champions League and is only in sixth place. On Sunday (4:30 p.m. / TV: Sky, live ticker: SPIEGEL.de) league leaders Liverpool come to Manchester. Jürgen Klopp's team won against Sheffield on Thursday.

»We have to learn from it. If you're a Manchester player, you should already know how to deal with such circumstances," said ten Hag. »We made individual mistakes that cost us the game. The players know their job and didn't make the right decisions. We have to know when to keep the ball, when to pass, when to move and when to change the game if we win.

Of course the mood was better at Chelsea. »This is an enormous incentive for us. This puts everyone in a good mood. Hopefully we can keep going,” said match winner Palmer. The 21-year-old offensive player now has 16 goals and eight assists in the league.
