The Wuhan Tennis Open is a WTA1000 event (there are only ten events of this level in the world today). It is second only to the four Grand Slams and is also one of the three highest-level tennis events in China. The last Wuhan Tennis Open was held in 2019.

"We are pleased to announce that the WTA 1000 event will return to Wuhan." said Jorge Salde, senior vice president of the Tennis Division of Octagon Global. "This top-level event not only showcases the extraordinary talents of WTA players, but also highlights the Wuhan’s unremitting commitment to cultivating sports elites.”
