  • Cheikh Kane Sarr: "It cannot be that someone who is insulted and suffers is also punished"

  • The Spain clause agrees with Vinicius with racism

  • Playing with a disadvantage "They must work harder so it doesn't affect them"

Starting today, the Competition Committee faces one of the most controversial decisions in recent times, which is to impose a sanction on an alleged victim of a racist attack, goalkeeper

Cheikh Kane Sarr

, by only assessing his reaction based on the minutes of referee

in the match between Sestao River and Rayo Majadahonda.

The referee reflected in the minutes that the insults reported by the goalkeeper, whom they called "fucking monkey" and "fucking black shit," according to his testimony, could not be heard by the referee team. Instead, he wrote that he jumped over the fence to grab a spectator and then approached the referee himself with the intention of attacking him, for which he showed him the red card. The footballer denied it in an interview in this newspaper and insisted on it again yesterday, in a press conference. "I just wanted to talk to him, ask him for explanations for the expulsion," he said.

Rayo Majadahonda has based a good part of the allegations it has addressed to the Competition Committee on this, in which it indicates that the referee's assessment is totally subjective and that it cannot be deduced from the images that he will try to attack him.

Articles 99 and 105

According to the regulations, Sarr could be subject to an accumulation of sanctions, as the two situations are reflected in the minutes. "Insulting, offending or addressing the main referee, assistant, fourth referee, directors or sports authorities in insulting terms or attitudes, unless it constitutes a more serious offence, will be punished with a suspension of four to twelve games," according to article 99 of the Disciplinary Code. .

On the other hand, article 105 states: "Those whose conduct is contrary to good sporting order will be subject to a suspension of four to ten games or a fine of between 602 and 3,006 euros when it is classified as serious." This article would, therefore, be applicable in the case of his jump into the stands, where he grabbed the fan who had insulted him by the scarf, according to his complaint.

After leaving the Las Llanas stadium, the player filed a complaint at an Ertzaintza police station and, in turn, was later reported by the fan he grabbed. This should open the door to the beginning of a criminal process that could lead the members of the Committee to postpone the decision in sports, given that the sports discipline is a public function delegated by the State to the Federation, by virtue of the principle of prejudice, which gives priority to criminal proceedings, provided that after both complaints the pertinent proceedings have already been opened.
