Former professional football player Vontae Davis has been found dead in Florida. The cause of death is unclear; according to initial information from Monday (local time), the police do not believe that the 35-year-old's death was due to external influence. However, an autopsy should still be carried out, it was said. It could take up to 90 days until the investigation is completed, writes the American broadcaster NBC with reference to the responsible authority.

Davis had played in the American professional league NFL for ten years and was part of the Pro Bowl twice. In total he played 121 games in the NFL.

The Miami Dolphins drafted the former cornerback in 2009 and said they were shocked by Davis' death in a statement. After three years with the Dolphins, the defensive player spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Owner Jim Irsay wrote in a post on Platform X that he was “extremely sad.” The NFL also expressed its condolences.

Davis moved to the Buffalo Bills in 2018 - and made a strange decision there that same year: during the second game of the season (20:31 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers) he announced his surprising resignation, at halftime. »Reality hit me hard and fast today. “I shouldn’t be out there anymore,” Davis said at the time.

The Bills and Colts also reacted with shock to the news of his death in messages.
