At the end of the first period of the meeting with the New York Islanders, the Russian goalkeeper replaced Samuel Ersson in the hosts' goal, who had conceded two goals by that time. In the remaining time, Fedotov made 19 saves and helped Philadelphia send the game into overtime - the hosts responded to goals from Matt Martin, Bo Horvat and Anders Lee with accurate shots from Noah Cates, Travis Sanheim and Morgan Frost.

However, in extra time, Fedotov failed to keep his goal intact and conceded for the second time. The winning goal was scored by Brock Nelson, who scored in the 84th second off a pass from Kyle Palmieri.

Along the way, Fedotov played for Neftekhimik, Salavat Yulaev, Traktor and CSKA, which he joined in 2021. In his first season with the army team, he won the Gagarin Cup, and also went to the Winter Olympics in Beijing, where he won silver medals as a member of the Russian team.

In April 2022, Fedotov’s contract with CSKA expired, after which he signed an agreement with Philadelphia, which selected him in the 2022 draft. However, during preparation for the season, he was detained in St. Petersburg and drafted into the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces for military service in Severodvinsk. At the end of it, Ivan signed a new contract with CSKA, which is why the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) imposed a ban on international transfers on the Muscovites, and suspended the athlete himself for four months.

Last season, Fedotov played 44 matches in the KHL regular championship, in four of which he left his goal intact. He allowed an average of 2.37 goals (21st place) with a reliability rate of 91.4% (35th).

The goalkeeper started the playoffs with a dry spell, but then was forced to capitulate 13 times in the series with Lokomotiv and reflected only 91.6% of shots on her goal.

On March 28, it became known that the contract between Fedotov and CSKA had been terminated, after which the goalkeeper arrived at Philadelphia’s location.

It was previously reported that two assists from Nikita Kucherov helped Tampa win over the Islanders in the NHL.
