China News Service, Beijing, April 1 (Reporter Liu Xingchen) 8 seconds 12, 8 seconds 11, 8 seconds 10, 8 seconds 06. In the past 27 days, Wu Yanni set a new personal best (PB) four times in the women's 60-meter indoor hurdles.

0.06 seconds is less than the time it takes to blink an eye, but in short-distance track racing, every 0.01 second improvement requires a huge effort.

At last summer's National Track and Field Championships, Wu Yanni, who was like a whirlwind, won the women's 100-meter hurdles championship with a time of 12.93 seconds, reaching the Asian Games standard. Her outstanding results and exquisite appearance have led the outside world to give her the title of "Hurdle Goddess".

"Everyone can win the national championship. I don't think it matters." Wu Yanni's words after the game showed Wu Yanni's ambition to break out of her "comfort zone."

The opening ceremony of the Chengdu Universiade coincided with Wu Yanni's 26th birthday. As a native of Sichuan, she won the silver medal in the women's 100-meter hurdles amid cheers. While refreshing the PB, it successfully reached the Paris Olympics participation standards.

Coming to the Hangzhou Asian Games, which attracted more attention, Wu Yanni encountered a setback.

At that time, in the women's 100-meter hurdles final, Wu Yanni was suspected of jumping the gun after the first shot. After a long discussion, the referee decided to let all players compete first. Wu Yanni crossed the finish line second in the race, but was ultimately disqualified due to a false start.

For a time, public opinion was rampant, and the praise of "Hurdle Goddess" gradually evolved into the label of "Internet celebrity athlete".

"I think there must be failures and bottlenecks in life. What are you afraid of? Just cross it." One month later, after winning the 100-meter hurdles championship in the Women's University Group B of the First Youth League, Wu Yanni responded to the Hangzhou Asian Games moments of frustration.

Wu Yanni, who has a flamboyant personality, still chooses to be herself. This kind of persistence allows her to block out the sounds of the outside world.

The 2024 Glasgow Indoor Track and Field World Championships in early March this year was Wu Yanni’s debut in the Olympic year. In the women's 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, facing a number of European and American strong players, she set a personal best time of 8.12 seconds, ranking fourth in the group, but unfortunately missed the semi-finals.

Wu Yanni cherishes her first trip to the World Championships in her career. "You can find the way forward after clearing the fog. There is no time for regrets. I can't wait to go back to training and work hard to improve."

In 2015, Wu Yanni reached the national first-level athlete standard in Jinan. Returning to the blessed land this year, she set a new PB again. In the women's 60-meter hurdles final of the 2024 National Indoor Track and Field Grand Prix Jinan Station, Wu Yanni ran a time of 8.11 seconds to win the championship. It was also after this competition that she bluntly stated that she wanted to make PB her habit.

At the 2024 National Indoor Track and Field Championships held recently, Wu Yanni fulfilled her promise and set a new PB twice in one day.

In the women's 60-meter hurdles preliminaries on March 29, Wu Yanni ranked first with a time of 8.10 seconds. On the sidelines, still breathing heavily, she faced the camera and said, "I hope I can break through again in the finals."

In the final that night, Wu Yanni improved her personal best time to 8.06 seconds and won the championship strongly. She also surpassed Japanese player Yumi Tanaka's 8.09 seconds and set the best Asian indoor women's 60-meter hurdles time this season.

"I can't accept it at all when people call me an Internet celebrity." After winning the championship, this straightforward "Sichuan girl" said.

Setting personal bests four times in a month, Wu Yanni used the word "perfect" when summing up her indoor season, and she also thanked all her supporters and critics.

But she wasn't entirely satisfied with the results. "Everyone has seen that I have continuously refreshed my personal best indoor results. In my opinion, I have not reached the expected goal and there are still many flaws. My goal is to run within 8 seconds."

Talking about her original intention of practicing track and field, Wu Yanni said frankly that she was eager to let more people know about the women's 100-meter hurdles event. "I am an athlete. If I had to be given a title, it would be a capable women's hurdler, because this is what I have achieved through hard work."

Wu Yanni was very serious when she said this. She is about to move to the outdoor competition stage and is eager to break through her personal best of 12.76 seconds. "I hope to run into 12.60 seconds. Now I need to solve the starting problem."

Standing in front of the starting line, Wu Yanni always makes her signature movements: shaking her shoulders, touching her eyebrows with one hand, and pointing her index finger to the sky. In her understanding, this also means "the sword points to Paris". Although the results have reached the standard, "12 seconds 76" is not very competitive on the world stage. Wu Yanni still needs to continue to move forward.

"I firmly believe that every generation of young people has their own glory, and every young person is the hero in their own story." Facing a future full of infinite possibilities, Wu Yanni hopes to use her own efforts in exchange for more surprises. (over)
