After four wins in a row, FC Augsburg had to be content with a draw against 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga. In the 1:1 (1:1) on matchday 27, Arne Maier gave FCA the lead (18th minute), Davie Selke equalized (33rd).

This doesn't change anything in the table. Cologne remain in 17th place, one point behind Mainz 05, who also drew in Leipzig on Saturday. The Cologne team has been waiting for a win in the Bundesliga since the beginning of February.

In the second half of the season, Augsburg were in fourth place before the game - ahead of FC Bayern. The hosts went into the game confidently. In the fifth minute, FCA captain and ex-Cologne player Elvis Rexhbecaj fired a first warning shot from around 15 meters. Since the FC did not allow themselves to be paralyzed by the threat of relegation, a lively initial phase developed.

The 1-0 came from a throw-in: Kevin Mbabu threw from the right into the penalty area, where Phillip Tietz passed it to Ruben Vargas, who in turn passed the ball to Maier. Maier completed Augsburg's Klein-Klein with a low shot (18th). The Cologne team remained trying, but harmless, until they got a lot of space from the FCA defense and used it: Florian Kainz sent Sargis Adamyan up front, at the last moment the Armenian crossed, strike partner Selke pushed in to equalize (35th). . Shortly afterwards, FC goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe prevented the score from going behind again after Kristijan Jakić's header (33').

Thielmann clears on the line

The second half began with Augsburg's pressure phase, driven by right-back Mbabu, who repeatedly went on the offensive. But as in the first half, FCA remained vulnerable to counterattacks. Adamyan's shot from a tight angle was blocked (64'), and after the subsequent corner, Jan Thielmann's long-range shot narrowly missed the opponent's goal (66').

A little later, Thielmann was challenged defensively: Substitute Dion Drena Beljo used a backheel to send the ball towards the Cologne goal, and Thielmann prevented the goal from being scored with a tackle (71'). Augsburg remained the more dangerous team in the final phase, but were denied by Cologne goalkeeper Schwäbe (87').
