Bundesliga soccer team Bayer 04 Leverkusen can continue to plan with head coach Xabi Alonso. As the league leaders announced on Friday, the Spaniard will remain coach at Leverkusen next season. »We had a lot of speculation about my future. I wanted to use the international break to reflect and make my decision," said Alonso at the press conference before Leverkusen's home game against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday. »And at this moment I have the feeling that this is the right place for me.«

Alonso is contractually bound to the Werkself until June 30, 2026, but the performances of his team, which is still unbeaten after 38 competitive games this season, have attracted interest from various major European clubs.

Most recently, Alonso was considered a possible successor to Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern Munich. Alonso spent the last years of his active professional career with the record champions from 2014 to 2017. “We would like to sign him,” Munich Honorary President Uli Hoeneß recently confirmed – but also qualified that this would be “probably impossible”. There had also recently been speculation about a commitment to Liverpool FC, which is looking for a replacement for the outgoing Jürgen Klopp.
