It aims to be

a rival for the electric models of Tesla or Porsche and, as of today, 76 stores spread across 29 cities in China

already accept orders for the SU7 (for Speed Ultra 7), the first car from the Asian manufacturer of electronic products, mainly telephones. . For now, it will only be sold in that market.

"It will be the most attractive car, the easiest to drive and the most intelligent," said

the company's CEO, Leo Jun, who assures that the maximum price of the car will be less than 500,000 yuan (about 64,000 euros at the current exchange rate).

Deliveries on March 28

The company already said some time ago that it would be "reasonably expensive" given the competition that arises, although

it will announce the rates for the entire range on Thursday night, the day on which deliveries of the first cars will begin.

In addition, the company has already uploaded its "Xiaomi Car" app to Chinese app stores.

The fifth largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer

unveiled the SU7 three months ago, at the CES fair in Las Vegas and also brought it to the MWC (Mobile World Congress)

that was held in Barcelona at the end of last February.

Up to 800 km range

It is a 4.99 meter long saloon that, according to the company, has the best aerodynamic coefficient among series production cars (the CX would be 0.195) and that will be offered with

two configurations: one with 299 HP of power, rear-wheel drive and a range of up to 668 km.

The other (called Max) has 673 HP, 800 volt technology (which allows super-fast charging) and up to 800 km of range thanks to a 101 kWh battery.

This variant is the one that would fight with the Tesla Model S or the Porsche Taycan and will be capable of reaching 265 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds.

To give a reference, and although European approval is more severe than the Chinese one when it comes to calculating ranges, right now the battery-powered model with the best data sold in Spain is

the Mercedes EQS, which promises 732 km. Although at the last Geneva Motor Show, the Chinese company MG announced a version of its luxury sedan IM L6 that will also offer 800 km

thanks to a solid-state battery. The car would hit the market in 2025.

Level 3 autonomous driving

Another technological feature of the car is that it will have Level 3 autonomous driving,

which will already be authorized in more than 100 Chinese cities throughout this year.

Xiaomi has already revealed its automotive plans in 2021,

to diversify due to the stagnation in demand for smartphones and is one of the new players in the electric vehicle market that has been approved by the Chinese authorities, reluctant to increase excess supply.

To carry them out,

it joined forces with its compatriot BAIC, who will produce the SU7, initially with a maximum annual production rate of 200,000 vehicles

. His plans involve investing around $10 billion in this business over a decade with the aim of positioning himself, five years later, as

one of the top five automobile manufacturers in the world.

This movement joins that of other technology companies that have partnered with car manufacturers to develop electric models,

such as Sony, Huawei or the search engine Baidu. On the other hand, Apple fell out of that race a few weeks ago,

after more than a decade of work.
