The remaining runners will be selected by those who exceed the set record in a race called the "Final Challenge" held by March of this year, and if no runner surpasses it, the 3rd place finisher from MGC will be selected. It was a selection method.

[Men]

Among the men, there were no athletes who could beat the set record, so Suguru Osako, who finished 3rd at MGC, was selected to represent the team for the second consecutive Olympics, following his 6th place finish at the Tokyo Olympics.

On the other hand, for women, Hominami Maeda set a new Japanese record of 2 hours 18 minutes 59 seconds at one of the selection races, the Osaka International Women's Marathon in January this year, and this record was set in other selection races. As no athlete could outperform him, Maeda was offered a spot in the Tokyo Olympics for the second time in a row.
