A serious accident with fatalities occurred during a rally in Hungary. According to authorities, a racing car left the road during the “Esztergom Nyerges” rally on Sunday and drove into spectators. The collision left at least four people dead and seven injured, police said. The news site index.hu reports, with reference to rescue workers, that there is said to be a child among the injured.

The accident occurred between Lábatlan and the municipality of Bajót in the north of the country. The reason for the accident is not yet known, police said in a statement. According to media reports, the vehicle involved in the accident was a Škoda Fabia.

Kata Répa, the competition's press officer, told rtl.hu that they would not comment on the details of the accident until the police had completed their investigation because they wanted to ensure that only correct and official information was released.
