《Highlights of the 7th day of the tournament》

The competition to select the swimming representatives for the Paris Olympics is being held at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. On the 7th day, the 23rd, the finals will be held in a total of four events, including non-Olympic events.

[Men's 200m Individual Medley]

29-year-old Daiya Seto will be competing in the event, aiming for his third consecutive Olympic appearance. Seto finished second in the 400m individual medley final held on the 18th, the second day of the tournament, and was unable to break the standard record, missing out on a spot on the national team.

In this event, there are young players who have improved their skills

, such as 18-year-old Tomoyuki Matsushita, who defeated Seto in the 400-meter individual medley and was accepted to the national team, and

20-year-old Hayao Ogata, who represented last year's world championships, and the competition is fierce. It looks like there will be a competition for the representative.

The 200m individual medley requires more speed.

Riding the momentum, Matsushita said, ``I think it's going to be a very close race with Seto.If I don't change my mind from the 400m and get my speed going in the first half, I don't think I'll be able to show my strength in the second half.I'll have to run an aggressive race. I want to continue doing so.''

Seto, who is looking forward to participating in his third consecutive Olympic Games, said, ``I have experienced many things in my long career, so even though I have not been chosen to represent the team, I am extremely calm.I have done what I can, and I'm just going to fight inside. I'm also enjoying the excitement of not having a job offer decided," he said, adding that he can approach the job with the calmness of a veteran.

It will be interesting to see whether it will be Matsushita's "momentum", Seto's "will", or Ogata who will take the lead.

In addition,

◆In the men's 50m freestyle, 32-year-old veteran Shinri Shioura, who holds the Japanese record for this event, will appear.

◆In the women's 200m backstroke, young players are gaining strength and have broken the dispatch standard record. People are watching to see if it can be cut.

[Trivia] How to select representatives for the Paris Olympics? “One shot win”

The Paris Olympic swimming team will be determined by a one-shot competition.

Athletes who finish in the top 2 at the finals of this national selection event will be selected by exceeding the standard record set by the Japan Swimming Federation.

This dispatch standard record is a unique standard established by the Japan Swimming Federation with the aim of having all Japanese athletes who participated in the Olympics advance to the finals and win multiple medals. A time equivalent to 10th place has been set. In all events, the times were faster than or the same as the Olympic participation standards set by the World Aquatics Federation, and the time in the 800m freestyle was faster than the Japanese record. In addition, standard records have been established for relay events involving four swimmers.
