Dani Alves must remain in prison. A court had decided the day before that the former football star could be released temporarily after his conviction for sexual aggression until a decision was made on his appeal. But the set deposit of one million euros was again not paid on time.

Therefore, the 40-year-old had to stay in prison for at least another night, reported the newspaper “La Vanguardia” and the Europa Press news agency, citing judicial circles. Dozens of reporters had waited in vain for hours outside Brians 2 prison near Barcelona.

Most of his assets are frozen

Alves had asked his compatriot's father, superstar Neymar, to lend him money, La Vanguardia had written the day before, citing those around Alves. The father had already advanced 150,000 euros, which Alves paid as compensation to the victim, a young woman.

The long-time professional player is not considered poor, but a large part of his assets are said to have been frozen in a legal dispute with his former wife. Alves could also hope for an upcoming tax refund from the Spanish tax authorities amounting to several million euros.

Alves is said to have forced a woman to have sex

Alves was sentenced on February 22nd. He also has to pay the victim 150,000 euros. He had been in custody for over a year before the verdict after a young woman accused him of forcing her to have sex in a toilet at a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 31, 2022.

During the trial, Alves rejected the allegations. The sexual acts were carried out with the woman's consent. Alves was only arrested three weeks after the incident - on January 20th last year - while visiting Catalonia. Before his arrest, he had played for the Unam Pumas club in Mexico.

The 126-time Seleção national player previously played in Europe for FC Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus Turin, among others. Dani Alves has won 42 titles in his career, making him the second most successful professional in history. Only Lionel Messi, with whom Alves played at Barcelona, has won more titles.
