According to information from Handelsblatt, US sporting goods manufacturer Nike, future supplier to the German Football Association (DFB), will pay more than 100 million euros per year from 2027. This became known from industry circles, as the paper reports. This would mean that Nike would far exceed the previous contract amount of the current supplier Adidas.

Long-time partner Adidas, which will continue to equip all national teams until the end of 2026, is expected to transfer around 50 million euros annually to the DFB. The association announced the new deal on Thursday, but did not mention any amounts. However, Nike “made by far the best economic offer.”

Nike commented on the deal on Friday. “We are pleased to be an official partner of the German Football Association from 2027 and to work with them to unlock the future potential of football,” Nike Europe told the sports information service.

The DFB is a “legendary global force in football that shares our passion for the sport,” the company continued. "Together we can be catalysts for change - from supporting the men's and women's national teams with the best product innovations to expanding women's football and promoting popular sports."

Adidas apparently caught off guard

The DFB surprised the public with the change of supplier. Adidas itself apparently only found out about the decision at short notice. "We were informed by the DFB today that the association will have a new supplier from 2027," said a spokesman for the company on Wednesday evening in response to a request from the German Press Agency.

At the 2024 European Championship, the men's team will set up its base camp in the "home ground" at the Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach and play in the jerseys that have just been introduced. At the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, Adidas will provide the last Germany jersey for the time being.

In 2027, the DFB will end a 70-year partnership with Adidas. Adidas was the supplier for all four World Cup titles and all three European Championship titles for men as well as for the two World Cup titles and the eight European Championship trophies for women. The collaboration with Nike is initially scheduled to run until 2034.
