Liverpool FC were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

At Manchester United, Jürgen Klopp's team lost 3:4 (2:1, 2:2) in extra time.

The goals for the Reds were scored by Alexis Mac Allister (44th minute), Mohamed Salah (45th + 3) and Harvey Elliott (105).

Scott McTominay (10th), Antony (87th), Marcus Rashford (112th) and Amad Diallo (120th + 1) scored for United.

United went into the game as the clear underdog given their position in the Premier League, but got off to a better start than Liverpool.

Reds keeper Caoimhin Kelleher fended off an attempt from Alejandro Garnacho so that McTominay was able to tap the ball over the line (10th).

Two quick goals before half time

It took a while for Klopp's team to gain control.

After about half an hour the time had come, but Liverpool initially celebrated in vain.

Wataru Endo had scored, but the goal was withdrawn due to Salah being offside (35').

But the double blow came just before half-time.

The equalizer was preceded by a remarkable solo by defensive talent Jarell Quansah.

The 21-year-old central defender fed Darwin Núñez and he laid it off for Mac Allister, whose shot from 14 meters hit the right corner with a slight deflection (44').

After the kick-off, Liverpool's high pressing resulted in a ball being won on the right touchline.

After a cross, Núñez shot, United goalkeeper Andre Onana barely parried, but Salah was right for the dust (45th + 2).

Suddenly tension at the end

Liverpool also dominated the game in the second half, Núñez missed two big chances (54th, 63rd) and the team missed other good opportunities.

United acted strangely passively, even letting the visitors have the ball for the most part without becoming really aggressive.

So it was a big surprise that United managed to equalize: After a one-on-one situation from Garnacho on the left, the ball luckily bounced to Antony.

The Brazilian didn't hesitate for long and shot from the turn to make it 2-2 (87').

Suddenly it was a draw again, but both teams almost scored to win.

For Liverpool, Harvey Elliott failed to hit the post (89'), United's Rashford was played by Christian Eriksen with a wonderful lob, but pushed the ball free in front of the goal but past the right (90'+4).

Both players had better luck in extra time: When Elliott tried to shoot from the edge of the penalty area with his left, Eriksen deflected his shot so that United goalkeeper Onana was unable to do anything (105').

Knockout via counterattack

But it wasn't the winning goal - on the contrary: a Liverpool loss of the ball 30 meters from their own goal punished Rashford with the equalizer (112th).

Then United countered after a corner kick from the guests via Garnacho, who made it 4-3 to Diallo (120th + 1).

That meant the game was decided.

The other semi-finalists are Coventry City after their sensational success against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester City and Chelsea FC, who beat Leicester City 4-2 (2-0) in the early afternoon with two goals in stoppage time.
