The women's curling world championship opened in Canada, and Japan won the first match, defeating New Zealand 8-6.

For the Women's Curling World Championship, 13 teams will compete in a round robin qualifying league, with the top six teams advancing to the playoffs.

SC Karuizawa Club, which won this year's Japan Championship by defeating Roco Solare and Hokkaido Bank, participated in the World Championship for the first time as the Japanese representative, and on the 16th, they faced New Zealand in the first match of the qualifying league.

In the third end of the match, the score was 1-1, when skipper Miyu Ueno's shot made a mistake, giving New Zealand a point and allowing a steal. In the 6th end, Ueno's last shot deflected the opponent's stone, scoring 2 points and successfully turning the game around.

Japan added three more points in the eighth end, winning 8-6.

After the game, Ueno said, ``It was our first game, so we were conscious of playing like ourselves, and we were able to enjoy ourselves. It was difficult to read the ice conditions and adjust accordingly, but in the final Overall, we were able to utilize our strengths and match them."
