Doriane Pin put on a show at the first race weekend of the 2024 F1 Academy season in Saudi Arabia.

The 20-year-old Frenchwoman secured both pole positions and both race victories, but caused a strange moment in the second race on Saturday: after the last lap of the race, she apparently missed the checkered flag and continued driving another lap at racing speed.

Only when the race management waved red flags did Pin take his foot off the accelerator.

The red flags indicate danger and speed must be reduced.

Pin is racing for the Prema team and is supported by Mercedes.

During the broadcast, her team could be seen celebrating after the victory.

Then you could hear her race engineer asking over the radio: “Doriane, what are you doing?

It was waved off."

She said twice that she had not been informed.

The race engineer apologized over the radio.

It was initially unclear whether radio contact was disrupted.

Likewise, whether Pin could still face a penalty.

At the award ceremony, she was congratulated by Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton, who will be competing in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia at 6 p.m. (TV: Sky).

Abbi Pulling (Rodin/Alpine) took second place, Maya Weug came third (Prema/Ferrari).

As part of the Formula 1 supporting program

Carrie Schreiner, a German, will also be competing in the F1 Academy in 2024.

She finished the races in Jeddah in tenth and ninth place and scored three points.

The second season of the racing series launched in 2023, in which only women drive, began on Friday in Saudi Arabia, unlike last year in the supporting program of Formula 1. In 2024, for the first time, all ten Formula 1 teams will support a female driver.

This will start with the F1 livery of the respective team.

Schreiner drives in Sauber colors.

The cars used are approximately at Formula 4 level.

Last year's F1 Academy champion Marta Garcia received a cockpit in the Formula Regional, which is still classified under Formula 3.

The next race will take place from May 3rd to 5th as part of the Grand Prix in Miami.
