Vanessa Zhâ & Olivier Poels 7:03 a.m., February 25, 2024

Gastronomy, leisure... Every weekend at 6:50 a.m., Olivier Poels and Vanessa Zha present a product, a producer and all the good tips for re(discovering) a region.

Vanessa, for this vacation you are taking us to California, and again under the sign of cinema

And yes, after the Césars, it is the Oscars which always arrive at a gallop, they will take place on the night of March 10.

And for movie buffs who would like to go on vacation to California, I have two big favorites: in Los Angeles, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures which opened 2 years ago, the Parthenon of cinema which exhibits objects, costumes and sets.

From the typewriter that Hitchcock used for Psycho to Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz... oh I would love to be able to dance in front of the set of Singin' in the Rain... well it's possible she did is also.

All this is just a tiny overview: 4600 M2 of exhibition in a gigantic glass bubble, designed by architectural star Renzo Piano.

And if I talk to you about architecture it is to guide you towards my 2nd favorite: a city 2 hours from Los Angeles?... in the desert?

Ah found it!

Palm springs…!

Well done !

Palmsprings in the Coachella Valley, straight out of the desert in the 1920s. All of Hollywood takes refuge there on weekends to escape the hustle and bustle of LA.

Each star had a house built by a renowned architect: single-storey houses, without floors, built with new materials in a refined style: This is how Desert modernism was born

Make us dream with that of a star…

Difficult between that of Leonardo di Caprio which is rented by the night, that of Elvis Presley… oh if I have one for you of course: That of Sinatra, known for its two large palm trees and its swimming pool in the shape of a Piano… he threw legendary parties there and also had legendary arguments with Ava Gardner.

He allegedly threw a champagne bottle through a window, which left a mark that can still be seen today.

And one last?

The “Barbie Dream House experience” from the Oscar-nominated Barbie film.

We find all the dream and glamor of Palmsprings there.
