After their mixed performance in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund also suffered a setback in the Bundesliga.

Edin Terzić's team lost 2:3 (2:1) to TSG Hoffenheim.

Donyell Malen (21st minute) and Nico Schlotterbeck (25th) initially made up for an early deficit caused by Ihlas Bebou (2nd), before Maximilian Beier secured the three points for Hoffenheim with a double strike (61st/64th).

With their first defeat of the year, Dortmund missed out on extending their lead over RB Leipzig and fifth place - and now the tough opponents are coming.

In the next few weeks we will be playing against FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, among others.

For Hoffenheim, after eight games without a win, it is a respectable success that brings TSG to seventh place.

The problems in building up the game have been with Dortmund for months, and against Hoffenheim there were individual errors: Emre Can passed the ball to Schlotterbeck improperly in the second minute.

Because he didn't move in the direction of the ball, Hoffenheim professional Bebou was able to intervene and shot the ball safely into the far corner from an acute angle.

Can once again moved into central defense to replace Niklas Süle, who was ill, while Mats Hummels initially sat on the bench after suffering from gastrointestinal problems.

After the opening goal, Hoffenheim stood deep and relied on the counterattack, while BVB struggled to catch up.

TSG keeper Oliver Baumann (7th/20th) prevented this, but he was powerless against two set pieces.

Malen held out his foot after a corner and header extension from Marco Reus (21'), Schlotterbeck was also found by Reus from a free kick (25').

After that the game calmed down, Dortmund let the ball run through their own ranks, Hoffenheim hardly got into the attack.

Whistles in the Dortmund stadium

After the break, BVB became more uncertain again, Julian Ryerson made the next mistake in the build-up to the game, which Hoffenheim's striker Beier was unable to take advantage of (57').

A few moments later, Beier did better and was lucky after a counterattack when Schlotterbeck deflected the ball into an unstoppable position (61').

Just three minutes later, it was Beier again who completed his team's quick transition game (64').

Previously, Schlotterbeck and Niclas Füllkrug had wasted the ball.

The Dortmund fans acknowledged this with whistles.

Dortmund then tried to equalize.

Apart from a half-chance from Füllkrug (75th), a controversial situation in which Dortmund demanded a hand penalty, and a header from Can (90th + 3), there were no more opportunities.
