“The team of the future is emerging, but there is still a lot of work. The passport regime intervened in the results of the freestyle struggle, but we will keep stricter control over the countries that take on obligations. We performed more than worthy in the truncated format - half of the team was not given a visa, and the one who was given a visa was returned from the border with this visa,” TASS quotes the head of the FSBI.

According to him, after returning from Romania the team will begin preparations for major competitions.

“The next task is preparation for the licensed tournament in Baku,” Mamiashvili concluded.

The Russian team competed at the 2024 European Championship in a neutral status and took fourth place in the medal standings. A number of leading domestic wrestlers were unable to take part in the tournament because Romania refused to enter the country if they had a visa.

Earlier, State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev called the decision to deny entry to Romania to two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulayev unacceptable.
