After defeats in Leverkusen and Rome, FC Bayern Munich was under pressure on matchday 22 of the Bundesliga - and was plunged deeper into crisis by VfL Bochum. VfL won 3:2 (2:1) thanks to goals from Takuma Asano (38th minute), Keven Schlotterbeck (44th) and Kevin Stöger (78th/penalty kick). Jamal Musiala (14th) and Harry Kane (87th) scored for Bayern. As was the case in the Champions League during the week, Dayot Upamecano was sent off.

In the table, FCB is now eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Bochum jumps to eleventh place.

In the first leg, FC Bayern won 7-0 in the Allianz Arena, and the German record champions initially seemed to be on the verge of a safe victory in the Ruhrstadion. After a corner, the guests restricted VfL in the penalty area, Musiala started to dribble, but his shot was missed by goalkeeper Manuel Riemann. The rebound landed at Leon Goretzka, who gave Musiala a second chance. The 20-year-old took advantage of this and hit the ball under the crossbar (14th).

Kane then missed a great chance to make it 2-0 from 16 meters in front of the goalkeeper alone (19th). A little later the game was interrupted due to fan protests and tennis balls flew onto the lawn. Bochum dealt with the unplanned break better than Bayern and equalized through Asano: The Japanese was sent into the penalty area and gave Manuel Neuer no chance with a powerful low shot into the far corner (38th).

Upamecano has to leave the field, Kane shortens

Bayern were rarely compelling in attack and were inattentive to a corner in the 44th minute. Schlotterbeck started towards the near post and headed in to make the score 2-1 at halftime (44').

In the second half, fans again threw tennis balls onto the field in protest against the DFL's planned investor involvement, and referee Daniel Schlager sent the players to the dressing room (56th). After the restart, Upamecano saw a yellow-red card for his elbow, and Stöger converted the penalty (78'). Kane shortened the score for Bayern (87'), but the home side took the lead over time.
