The VfL Wolfsburg footballers have taken the lead in the Bundesliga, at least for one day. The runner-up gave 1. FC Nürnberg, who were threatened with relegation, no chance on matchday 14 and won 9:1 (4:1) away. With 35 points, VfL is now two points ahead of FC Bayern. SGS Essen awaits the defending champions on Sunday (4 p.m.).

Vivien Endemann gave Wolfsburg the lead in the seventh minute. A little later, Vanessa Haim equalized for FCN (12th minute), but after that the hosts had little to counter. National team captain Alexandra Popp (34th, 38th), Ewa Pajor (36th, 71st/foul penalty, 79th, 90th + 1), Chantal Hagel (52nd) and Fenna Kalma (81st) contributed the other goals for them Wolfsburg women.

National player Lena Oberdorf, who recently announced that she would be moving to Munich in the summer, was in Wolfsburg's starting eleven and played her 100th Bundesliga game. However, she had to be substituted at half-time.

Frankfurt disappointed in Leipzig

On Friday evening, the Eintracht Frankfurt footballers suffered an unexpected defeat. Due to the 1:2 (0:1) draw at newly promoted RB Leipzig, the Frankfurt team missed out on temporarily shortening the gap to the two top teams, Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg. Leipzig's top scorer Vanessa Fudalla (11./90.+1) scored twice for the hosts. Frankfurt's Remina Chiba only managed to score in the second minute of stoppage time.

After their second defeat in a row, Eintracht remains with 26 points and third in the table. However, with a win on Sunday in Leverkusen (2 p.m.), TSG Hoffenheim can move within two points of Frankfurt.
