Tiger Woods gave up early on his comeback on the PGA Tour. The 48-year-old played six holes on Friday and asked for a golf cart after teeing off on hole seven. Rules keeper Mark Dusbabek said on US television that Woods had an illness that had nothing to do with the problems in his ankle or back.

After his injury-related retirement from the Masters in April last year and the subsequent operation on his right foot, Woods only made his comeback in December at his invitation tournament in the Bahamas. The $20 million event at Riviera Country Club was the first official PGA tournament for Woods since the 2023 Masters.

“I knew I would be rusty”

»I had problems with the speed on the green. “I knew I was going to be rusty,” Woods said after the opening round on Thursday. “My back cramped on the last few holes and then it just blocked.” On hole 18, the 15-time major winner even hit the trees.

The long-standing world number one broke his right leg several times in a serious car accident in February 2021. Since then, Woods has only competed in a few select tournaments.
