The long-time national soccer goalkeeper Almuth Schult is hoping for a comeback on the big stage - and has a special wish. She would “probably be annoyed if I didn’t try again. Football is just fun, and in a way I still have dreams," said Schult, who is currently without a club, to Sport Bild: "If I could wish for something, it would be to be able to experience the Olympic Games again."

But we have to see “what level I can reach again and how the step to a new club with the family can be organized,” said the 32-year-old, who won Olympic gold with the German team in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. She is currently keeping fit in training with the VfL Wolfsburg second team and working as a TV expert for ARD. The 66-time national player last played in the Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg from 2013 to 2022.

Horst Hrubesch, who is currently coaching the DFB team on an interim basis, commented cautiously on Wednesday as to whether Schult would be considered for Paris 2024 if the DFB women successfully qualified. "It's a short time until the summer, she's coming out of maternity - I don't have an opinion on it at the moment," said the interim national coach at a digital media round. When qualifying for the Summer Games, the Final Four of the Nations League, Germany will first face France on February 23rd.

When looking for a new club, she is concentrating on Europe. Her time in California at Angel City FC, where she played until 2022, “was a great experience, but the USA would be too far away for the family. Everything else remains to be seen," said Schult, who gave birth to her third child in August: "I am very grateful for what I already have: a great family and a TV job that I enjoy."
