Ski racer Lara Gut-Behrami won the giant slalom in Soldeu and took the lead in the overall World Cup from US star Mikaela Shiffrin. The 32-year-old Swiss fought her way from ninth to first place in Andorra with a fantastic second run and celebrated her sixth victory of the season. New Zealand's Alice Robinson came second, just a hundredth of a second behind, and American AJ Hurt came third (+0.15 seconds).

In the overall ranking, the in-form Gut-Behrami is now five points ahead of Shiffrin. The exceptional athlete from Colorado fell heavily on the first of two downhill runs in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, two weeks ago and has been taking a break ever since. Shiffrin has already won the overall World Cup five times. It remains to be seen whether she will make her comeback for the Speed Triple in Crans Montana from Friday.

Gut-Behrami has secured the big crystal ball once so far – in the 2015/2016 season. In Andorra she celebrated her 43rd World Cup success.

Youngster Emma Aicher was the only German representative. The 20-year-old from SC Mahlstetten did not make it into the second round in 32nd place. There is another slalom in Soldeu on Sunday.
