Will the Kansas City Chiefs be the next NFL dynasty? Or will the San Francisco 49ers celebrate their sixth title and draw level with the previous record winners New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers? In the 58th Super Bowl, the NFL championship is at stake between both teams. The surroundings also generate a lot of attention, this year even more than usual. Because it is not yet clear whether pop superstar Taylor Swift, who is in a relationship with Chiefs professional Travis Kelce, will make it to the stadium in Las Vegas in time for kick-off.

When is the Super Bowl taking place?

The kick-off is on the night of Sunday to Monday,

February 12th

,

at 0.30 a.m. CET

. You can find a live ticker for the NFL final on SPIEGEL.de.

TV broadcast: Where can you watch the Super Bowl?

In Germany, RTL

is broadcasting the Super Bowl this year

. Preliminary reporting begins at 11:15 p.m. The game can also be followed via stream on the paid streaming provider

DAZN

(from 11.30 p.m.), where the game is also optionally broadcast in the original US commentary.

Who is favorite for the title?

Due to their experience and playoff performance, the

Chiefs

go into the game as favorites. The team led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes has won the Super Bowl twice in the past four years. The 49ers have been waiting for the championship for almost 30 years, but their performance, especially on defense, was not ready for a title in the playoffs.

Kansas City's focus is on quarterback Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. The latter had an outstanding day in the semifinals against the Baltimore Ravens; the hype surrounding him and his girlfriend Taylor Swift does not affect the quality of the sport. The 49ers are also strong offensively; running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle are difficult for any defense to control. At the quarterback position, however, Brock Purdy does not reach Mahomes' level.

By the way, the title duel Chiefs against 49ers already took place in 2020. Back then, Kansas City won 31:20 in Super Bowl LIV.

Is there a German there?

No

. The most promising candidate was Amon-Ra St. Brown, who narrowly lost to San Francisco (31:34) with the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game.

Which stadium is the game being played in?

Originally, Super Bowl LVIII was awarded to New Orleans. But because the NFL has now expanded the regular season from 16 to 17 games per team, the Super Bowl was postponed by a week, meaning there was a scheduling conflict with the annual Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. Now

the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be played in

Las Vegas for the first time. The

Allegiant Stadium,

completed in 2020 and costing around 1.7 billion euros,

offers space for around 65,000 spectators.

Of course the game has long been sold out. To get a ticket on the secondary market, you need about

$10,000

. You can park at the stadium for just $100. A half liter of beer costs around 20 dollars, a hot dog around 13. There are also accommodation costs: Since Las Vegas has around 150,000 hotel rooms, the prices are not quite that exorbitant. However, you should plan on paying $900 per night.

Who is performing in the halftime show?

Rihanna is followed by

Usher

. With the R&B singer, the style of music remains virtually unchanged from last year. By the way, the stars don't get paid to appear in the halftime show. The worldwide attention that comes with the show is enough for them. Rihanna also used her appearance last year to let the world know that she was pregnant.

Usher previously performed at the Super Bowl in 2011. At that time he supported the Black Eyed Peas for a song. The 45-year-old is one of the most successful R&B singers of today, having sold 65 million albums worldwide. He had nine number one singles in the USA. However, his greatest successes, which he celebrated with hits like "U Remind Me", "You Make Me Wanna..." and "Yeah", were around 20 years ago.

Who sings the anthem?

Country singer

Reba McEntire

will sing the American national anthem before the game,

and Post Malone

will sing “America the Beautiful.” In addition, soul singer Andra Day is scheduled to perform the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Singing the national anthem in particular is considered a great honor, which has previously been bestowed on musicians such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and Chris Stapleton.

What does Taylor Swift do?

This question will probably remain open for a long time. Theoretically it would be possible for Chiefs star Kelce's girlfriend to attend the Super Bowl despite a concert in Tokyo about 24 hours beforehand. The Japanese embassy in the USA specifically assured this. However, there is a problem that could leave some ordinary people bewildered. Swift can't find a place to park her plane. All 475 aircraft parking spaces at the four airports in the immediate vicinity of Las Vegas have already been booked due to the Super Bowl.

How much does a commercial cost?

The Super Bowl is also an annual highlight for the advertising industry. Spots are produced specifically for the event. But the broadcast is not cheap. Around

seven million dollars

are due for 30 seconds. At least the price remained stable compared to the previous year.
