For Ivory Coast, this CAN at home was anything but a long, quiet river. After an inaugural victory against Guinea-Bissau, the Elephants lost against Nigeria then were humiliated in front of their home crowd by Equatorial Guinea, before being drafted by Morocco.

Since then, the matches have been full of strong emotions for the Ivorians. A feat against Senegal won on penalties, another against Mali thanks to goals on the gong. Ivory Coast is miraculous and believes in its destiny.

Ivory Coast - DR Congo have already played each other in the semi-finals. It was in 2015, and the Elephants won 3-1, a match contested by Serge Aurier and Max Gradel on the Ivorian side, and Chancel Mbemba on the Congolese side, players still present in the selection.

The DR Congo is chasing its past glory, its titles of 1968 and 1974 being more than half a century old, but this team in reconstruction relies on impressive physical power, personified by Mbemba. A reconstruction also embodied by coach Sébastien Desabre, who is developing a long-term project for the Leopards.
