Jordanian national team coach Hussein Amouta expressed his happiness after his team reached the final of the Asian Football Cup, following a 2-0 victory over South Korea at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium on Tuesday.

Yazan Al-Naimat and Musa Al-Taamari scored two goals in the second half, bringing Jordan to the continental final for the first time.

Amouta told the Qatari network (BeIN Sports), "I am the happiest coach on the continent and perhaps in the world. A historic day for us."

The result was a big surprise to Jordan, which is ranked 87th in the world, and 64 behind South Korea, which is the third highest ranked team in Asia.

Amouta said, "I always believe in teamwork. The opponent was not easy... scoring two goals against South Korea is not an easy thing."

He added, "This group (of players) deserved to win... South Korea's capabilities may exceed our capabilities, but we must not over-respect the opponent. The players gave a heroic performance. The decisive factor was not disrespecting South Korea too much."

The Moroccan coach continued, "South Korea conceded goals in their last matches, and we believed they could score against them, and this was the turning point."

Jordan controlled the match from the beginning, but South Korean goalkeeper Jo Hyun-woo saved his net in the first half.

Al-Naimat gave coach Amouta's team the lead with a shot over goalkeeper Hyun-woo.

Al-Taamari increased the score with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area, after a wonderful individual effort in which he overtook the South Korean defenders from the middle of the field.

Reaching the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup was Jordan's best achievement in the tournament, which was achieved in 2004, in its first participation in the competition, and repeated in 2011.

Amouta (54 years old) previously led his country, Morocco, to win the African Cup of Nations for local players, in addition to winning the African Champions League with Wydad, and the African Confederation Championship with FUS Rabat.

When asked about the best achievement in his coaching career, he said, “All achievements are important because they came after hard work. This achievement (Jordan reaching the final) I think is excellent because it comes at the continental level. But I enjoy all the achievements.”

Jordan awaits the winner of the match between host Qatar and Iran in the final next Saturday.
