Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the hero of South Africa's victory over Cape Verde in the quarter-finals of the African Cup (French)

The South African national team completed the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations after defeating Cape Verde on penalties.

The regular and extra time ended in a goalless draw, before the Bafana Bavan team clinched its qualification by winning 1-2, on penalty kicks, thanks to the brilliance of its goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, who saved 4 kicks.

Cape Verde almost snatched victory and qualified for the semi-finals in the first minute of stoppage time with a shot from substitute Gilson Tavares from a one-on-one position, but South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams brilliantly blocked the shot, hitting the post and returning to his hand.

In the second minute of the first half of extra time, Fosenha, Cape Verde's goalkeeper and captain, blocked a shot from close range by substitute Mihlali Mayambila.

The South African national team qualifies to face Nigeria next Wednesday.

On the same day, the Democratic Republic of Congo will play against Ivory Coast, which beat Mali 1-2 yesterday, Saturday.
