Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Guinea 3-1 in the African Cup quarter-finals (Reuters)

The Democratic Republic of Congo has reached the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations after overcoming an early goal deficit against Guinea into a valuable 3-1 victory in the quarter-finals of the continental competition.

Guinea striker Mohamed Bayo opened the match with a penalty kick in the 20th minute, but 7 minutes later Chancel Mbemba equalized for the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area following a cross pass from a corner kick.

Yoann Wessa scored the second goal for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 65th minute from a penalty kick, while Arthur Masuaku sealed the victory with a third goal 8 minutes before the end with a powerful free kick from a difficult angle that deceived Guinea's goalkeeper Ibrahima Kone and into his net.

Next Wednesday, the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team will meet in the semi-finals with the winner of the confrontation between Ivory Coast, the home team, and Mali, scheduled for today, Saturday, in the quarter-finals.
