The Ivory Coast national team won 5-4 over defending champion Senegal on penalty kicks after the two teams tied 1-1 in regular and extra time, leading the host country to advance to the quarter-finals of the continental competition.

Defender Musa Nyakati missed the third penalty kick by hitting the post, while Franck Kessie succeeded in scoring the fifth and decisive kick.

Habib Diallo opened the scoring in the fourth minute, while Franck Kessie equalized in the final minutes of the second half, forcing two additional periods in which the two teams did not succeed in resolving the clash, forcing penalty kicks.

In the quarter-finals, Ivory Coast awaits the winner of the confrontation between Mali and Burkina Faso.
