According to the deputy, the expectation of a massive outflow of athletes from Russia did not materialize, despite the invested financial, information and political resources.

“Russia quickly developed measures to support athletes, hold domestic and open international competitions with the participation of athletes and teams from friendly countries. The overwhelming majority of the sports community has remained loyal to the Motherland and shares the events taking place with the country,” said Teryushkov.

He added that the West is unable to assemble a team of sports refugees and dissidents from Russia.

“Faced with powerful resistance in response to discriminatory sanctions, the United States is forced to adapt and look for reasons to disrupt the games planned in Russia. For these purposes, as in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2022, the same pocket organizations will be involved: the IOC, WADA and CAS,” the parliamentarian believes.

Earlier, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, said that the United States authorities were concerned about failures in the campaign they had launched to isolate Russia in elite sports.
