First set

22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, 36, initially showed that old is oldest. The Serb quickly went up into a 4-1 lead after an impressive ball.

"What a point. What an execution, Djokovic shows his greatness, commented the BBC's Jonathan Jurejko on site in Paris.

It looked to be a wake-up call for 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz who three times had the opportunity to reduce to 4-3, instead Djokovic kept his composure and extended to 5-2 and then won the set 6-3.

"Alcaraz has obvious problems with the first serve, maybe he should change his return position," Eurosport pundit John McEnroe said.

Second set

The second act was even where Carlos Alcaraz at the score of 1-1 offered the delicacy of the match.

Djokovic looked set to equalise to make it 15-15 in the third but the Spaniard managed to strike a well-placed super shot with his back to the net that left the 36-year-old speechless.

"Even Djokovic laughs and applauds. Unbelievable," McEnroe commented.

The dream stroke gave the 20-year-old momentum and the world number one eventually won the set 7-5.

"Now he's showing what he's made of. He plays with high energy and his forehand is difficult to handle – even for Djokovic," McEnroe noted.

Third set

The third set began dramatically as Alcaraz was forced to take a medical time out when he reached for a ball at the score of 1-1 (30-30).

"It doesn't look good, this won't be easy," Rosengren told Channel 9.

True, Alcaraz was unable to keep up with Djokovic after the injury.

"This is not a guy who folds down. Right now he can't play tennis at any level, commented Magnus Alsterback.

The veteran eventually won the third set 1-6.

Fourth set

The 20-year-old then came back out on court for the fourth set after a period of treatment in the locker room.

However, it never really got exciting and Djokovic also won the last set magnificently with 1-6. The 36-year-old is thus ready for the final of the tournament where he will face the winner between Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev.
