After the injury, Alcaraz took only one game.

It was at the score of 1-1 in the third set that misfortune occurred. Alcaraz suddenly jumped on one leg and went high on his calf, grimacing badly. He received medical treatment for a few minutes and chose to continue the match – unable to do himself justice.

As Alcaraz took the medical timeout, Djokovic got a game without having to play and went ahead to 2-1, only having to keep the ball in play to take home the set 6-1.

"Never experienced being picked off a game"

"I've never seen a game taken off for a medical timeout. It was a rule I didn't know about," says Mats Wilander.

After the third set, Alcaraz left the arena to receive treatment in the locker room. Djokovic remained out on the court and stretched on a couple of occasions. Alcaraz moved better but after a long first game, Djokovic was able to go ahead to 1-0 in the fourth set and then it rolled on.

Djokovic, who has won the French Open on two occasions, is chasing his 23rd Grand Slam title and could become the best in tennis history. He shares 22 titles with Rafael Nadal, who has won 14 times in Paris, who had to forgo this year's tournament due to injury.
