14th-placed IFK Göteborg has a new head coach. With seven recorded points in eleven rounds, they have signed Jens Berthel Askou.

The Dane comes most recently from AC Horsens, which this weekend was eliminated from the Danish top league and now the IFK profiles are reacting.

"It's an old man who has been eliminated from the top division in Denmark. He can't have great self-confidence. I don't know him very well but he comes in from a negative season, it can definitely not be so fun, says Glenn Hysén to SVT Sport.

"Hope I'm wrong"

Do you think Jens Berthel Askou is the right man for IFK Göteborg?

"Spontaneously, no. I hope I'm wrong, but maybe it's not the right guy considering what he's been through.

IFK Göteborg's all-time leading scorer in competitive matches, once Europe's best striker, Torbjörn Nilsson gives his view on the signing:

"It's not optimal in Gothenburg and it's difficult to say whether it's good or bad. It doesn't have to be wrong, but I hope it's not a desperation from IFK, to just take a coach who is available without them having mapped him out, says club icon Nilsson to SVT Sport.

Blue and white profile Mattias Bjärsmyr, with 465 appearances at the club, also thinks that the choice of Jens Berthel Askou is strange.

"I had hoped for someone with more merit as they had a while to find someone. I had to Google him because I didn't know who it was," he says.

"We are not worried at all"

But Ola Larsson, IFK Göteborg's new technical director, disagrees.

"We have brought Jens here for his personal qualities, he has a very clear leadership, he is a high demander and a good driving force," he told SVT Sport.

You are not worried that he will come here with low self-confidence after a demotion?

"If you meet him, you'll see that there's no lack of confidence in that boy, we're not worried at all," he says.
