In the men's long jump at the Japan Championships in Athletics, Japan record holder Shotaro Shiroyama jumped 8.11 meters in the final jump to win his first title in an upset.

Yuki Hashioka, who finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics, finished second.

The Japan Championships in Athletics are being held at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka City to select representatives for the World Championships in August.

On the third day of the Games, the final of the men's long jump was held, and in addition to Shiroyama and Hashioka, Hiromichi Yoshida, who broke the standard participation record at the World Championships last month by finishing third in Japan history, participated.

At the end of the fifth round, Hashioka was the only player to jump 8.3 meters, which is the 3-meter mark, to take the lead, but Shiroyama jumped 3.5 meters in the sixth and final jump.

After this, Hashioka failed to improve his record for the sixth time, and Shiroyama won his first championship.

On the other hand, Yoshida, who was offered a place on the World Championship team if he finished third in this tournament, could not advance after the fourth round because his record did not improve to 1.8 meters at the end of the third round, and he finished in 8th place.

Shiroyama, who won the championship for the first time: "It's more important to compete on the world stage"

Shotaro Shiroyama, who won the men's long jump for the first time, said, "I was hoping to set a record while keeping my jumping in mind.

Hashioka: "I resent myself for not being able to win"

Yuki Hashioka, who finished second, expressed his frustration, saying, "It's frustrating that we lost, and I feel a lot of resentment for not being able to win here, so I want to use that as energy to switch my mind to breaking the standard record of the World Championships."
