Almgren, who lowered his Swedish record in the 3000 meters in the DL premiere in Qatar, will run the 5000 meters in Florence.

Ahead of the World Championships in Budapest in August, he also plans to compete in the 5000 meters at the Diamond League event in Lausanne on June 30 and then two days later: 3000 meters at the Diamond League in Stockholm.

A tough schedule in the middle of the summer, but one that the Swedish runner believes will do him good for the World Championships.

"I'm going to compete intensively in June to get my body used to it and then reduce the intensity but increase the amount of training July-August. The hope is to reach a whole new level when it is time at the World Cup.

Femke Bol has copied McLaughlin's step technique

Swedish long jumper Khaddi Sagnia makes her season debut in the Diamond League.

Femke Bol makes his Diamond League season debut in the 400-meter hurdles. She set an early world best by running 53.12 in Belgian Oordegem on Saturday.

She has changed the stride length between the hurdles from 15 to 14 steps in the first seven hurdles and then 15 steps the remaining three hurdles, just like world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

"I have the confidence to go out faster and now I have to take longer steps," Bol said after it worked well at the race in Oordegem.

SVT broadcasts the competition starting at 20.00 on SVT1/Play.
