New French disillusionment. The young and promising French driver Luca Van Assche failed to thwart Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich. Luca Van Assche lost in three sets against the 34th player in the ATP rankings already falling to another Frenchman, Arthur Fils.

Two days after beating a French tennis hopeful, Arthur Fils, Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich eliminated another, Luca Van Assche, without trembling 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) on Wednesday in the second round of Roland-Garros. The 34th player in the world has, as against Fils, present in the stands of court 14, used his regularity and power from the back of the court to subdue Van Assche (19 years old), who did not demerit this year Porte d'Auteuil, winning his first match.

But the step was too high for the 82nd world, winner of the tournament in junior. Dominated in the first two sets, he took advantage of the first crack in Davidovich's concentration mask to break at 3-2 in the third.

Davidovich stronger

But when it came to wrapping up, Davidovich targeted the backhand of the young Frenchman, who cracked. Very good in the long game, the 23-year-old Spaniard does not have a one-dimensional game: he also excels in variations, and defends brilliantly, as indicated by this fabulous point he won with a cross cushioning at the end of the race to regain the advantage (6-5). In the decisive game, Davidovich was more solid and above all very realistic to conclude the match on his first opportunity.

He will likely meet world No. 3 Novak Djokovic in the next round, who also plays Wednesday against Marton Fucsovics, and could cause him problems. For Van Assche, the time of promises continues.
