Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino will be the new coach at Chelsea. The 51-year-old signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year at Stamford Bridge, the club announced.

Since parting ways with coach Graham Potter last month, the Blues have been looking for a permanent successor. Initially, Frank Lampard had taken over the club as interim coach. Lampard was already the third Chelsea coach in the 2022/23 season, after the new owners around US entrepreneur Todd Boehly initially put Thomas Tuchel on leave.

After a disastrous season with twelfth place in the Premier League, Chelsea will not be represented in any European competition next season.

Pochettino, who had coached Southampton FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, had been without a job since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He was considered the favourite to take over as coach in London after Chelsea held talks with ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann and former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique, but they failed to produce a result.
