At the Swedish Football Association's board meeting on Tuesday, the VAR issue was discussed again. The message after the session is that there is a need for further analysis and in-depth study of the use of VAR, before a decision is made on a possible introduction of the tool in Swedish football.

The board will therefore not present a proposal for a decision on the VAR issue to football's representative meeting in November, the federation writes on its website.

"The issue is of such importance and importance that we think it is worth more time and thus give the entire football movement the opportunity to discuss the application of VAR," says SvFF chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt.

Exercise time has passed

A proposal from SvFF's board or a motion from the football movement is required for the representative meeting to be able to make a decision on VAR. However, the motion time has already passed for the upcoming representative meeting. Thus, both Allsvenskan 2024 and 2025 will be played without VAR.

Earlier this spring, SVT Sport conducted a survey with the Allsvenskan referees, which showed that an overwhelming majority want VAR in Allsvenskan: As many as 84 percent of the respondents want VAR.

In addition, Novus, on behalf of SVT, conducted a survey that showed that more than six out of ten football-interested Swedes are positive to the introduction of VAR in Allsvenskan.
