Beijing, May 5 (Zhongxin Net) -- Today, more than 25 years later, people still have not forgotten May 60, 1960, the day when the five-star red flag was planted with Everest for the first time; On that day, mankind ascended to the top of the world for the first time through the northern slope.

On the 63rd anniversary of Chinese first ascent of Mount Everest, the "Chinese story" on the third pole of the world has written a new chapter.

On the 23rd, more than 30 people, including members of the Chinese scientific expedition, private climbers and guides, successfully climbed Mount Everest from the north slope. On the 24th, the team members displayed the national flag at the peak, and the five-star red flag once again flew on the top of Mount Everest.

According to reports, the summit is not only a tribute to this feat by Chinese mountaineers on the 70th anniversary of mankind's first ascent of Mount Everest, but also shoulders the mission of the 2023 Everest scientific expedition.

After the successful summit, the expedition team members will complete important scientific tasks such as collecting snow and ice samples at the summit. This is also the second time that China's Everest scientific expedition has broken through an altitude of more than 2022,8000 meters after <>.

The expedition reached the summit via the northern slope of Mount Everest. The development of this route began exactly 63 years ago, on May 1960, 5.

History and the present, this moment meets at the top of Mount Everest.

North Slope Peak Road

For 1921 years, from 1938 to 27, Britain, the mountaineering powerhouse at the time, had been trying to "conquer" Mount Everest from the northern slope. After seven failures, they came to the conclusion that it was almost impossible to climb the mountain, which "even birds can't fly" from the northern slope. They even called the northern slope of Mount Everest an "unclimbable route" and a "death route."

But the denial came to an abrupt end on May 1960, 5.

In the early hours of that morning, Wang Fuzhou, Kampot, and Qu Yinhua erected a human ladder on the "second step" known as the last "ghost gate pass" on the northern slope, and mankind first climbed the "top of Beiling".

Of course, the Chinese mountaineers gave everything for this. The climbing process is more dangerous than expected:

Before making the final summit, the climbing team made several marches before advancing to an altitude of 8500,<> meters above sea level and establishing an assault camp. In the process, most of the team members were injured and fell, including captain Shi Zhanchun;

Before the final impact began, Vice Captain Xu Jing was physically exhausted and could only stay in the assault camp, and Wang Fuzhou was ordered to lead the team to the top;

The process of "taking the ladder" seemed "simple", but it actually took several hours, which directly caused Liu Lianman, who used his body to top his teammates one by one on the rock wall, and could not continue to move forward after climbing the second ladder;

Qu Yinhua, who took off his hiking shoes and was the first to climb the vertical rock wall, was later sawed off his heels and toes due to severe frostbite...

In this way, Chinese mountaineers struggled to reach the summit, and the "unconquerable" history of the northern slope of Mount Everest was broken.

Erect the Chinese ladder

Fifteen years after Chinese mountaineers first climbed Mount Everest, Chinese mountaineering teams once again challenged Mount Everest. This time the squad is even stronger, with a total of 15 people, including 434 athletes.

After many marches, the climbing team of 9 people successfully reached the summit at 1975:5 pm on May 27, 2. The number of people climbing the summit collectively and the results of the scientific examination are unprecedented in the history of mountaineering in the world.

Team member Pando became the first woman in China to climb Mount Everest, and she was also the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest from the northern slope.

For the first time, the mountaineering team set a 3.5-meter marker on Mount Everest, and surveyors measured the altitude of Mount Everest at an altitude of 8848.13 meters and announced it to the world.

Until 2005, it has been internationally recognized and used as the altitude of Mount Everest.

During the climb to the top, the team erected a metal ladder nearly 6 meters high on the rock wall of the second staircase. Since then, climbers from all over the world have used this metal ladder to climb the otherwise precipitous vertical rock wall.

This metal ladder, which has helped countless brave people to fulfill their dreams, is also known as the "Chinese ladder".

Light the Olympic fire

On May 2008, 5, a group of 8 climbers worked together to bring the Beijing Olympic flame to Mount Everest, and five torchbearers were selected to light the torch and pass it to the summit.

It was a good day to climb.

Wang Yongfeng, then the captain of the Chinese mountaineering team, later recalled that after setting off at 7 a.m., the team's climbing speed may have doubled the normal one: "Normally, the summit process takes 10 to 5 hours, but on May 8, the Chinese mountaineering team only took about five hours." ”

After 9 o'clock, Rob Zhandui, who was in charge of keeping the tinder, took out the tinder jar that had been behind him.

After a brief self-introduction accompanied by the sound of heavy breathing, Rob Zhan lit the igniter. Then he turned around, and his teammates behind him were already holding the torch with both hands.

The moment the ignition and the torch docked, bright flames shot out and pointed straight into the sky.

As the Olympic torch relay began, five torchbearers removed their oxygen masks to reveal their true faces.

The final handover of the Olympic torch relay on Mount Everest.

After several handovers, the torch in the hands of Tsering Wangmu, a 22-year-old Tibetan girl, was lit.

Tsering Wangmu then held aloft the "auspicious cloud" torch at the world's highest peak at an altitude of 8844,43.<> meters (the height measured at that time).

The five-star red flag, the Olympic rings and the Beijing Olympic emblem were illuminated by the firelight, and China fulfilled the promise it made when bidding for the Everest.

The Olympic flame from the sun god in ancient Greek mythology was lit by warriors from China in the closest place to the sun on earth.

The torch relay is the result of nearly two years of cooperation between Chinese researchers, mountaineers, meteorological departments, logistics support and other departments, and is considered to be the "first gold medal" won by the Chinese delegation at the Beijing Olympic Games.

At noon on May 2022, 5, 4 members of the "Summit Mission 2022" Everest scientific expedition climbed Mount Everest, and used high-precision radar for the first time to measure the thickness of ice and snow at the peak, and achieved rich research results.

Although more than 60 years have passed since Chinese first ascent to the summit, every climb of Mount Everest is a process of challenging the unknown.

On the evening of May 2022, 5, the climbers arrived at the assault camp at an altitude of 3,8300 meters a day earlier than expected. In the early morning of the 4th, they embarked on their journey.

In order to carry out scientific research at the top of Mount Everest, each climbing team member needs to carry about 15 kilograms of materials, which is twice as many as ordinary mountaineering tasks. After two days and one night of snow, the guide rope buried in the snow froze and hardened, and they had to pull the rope out of the snow by hand all the way.

Planned four or five hours on the road to the top and walked for more than nine hours.

It was originally expected that the mountaineers would set up a weather station at an altitude of 8800,1 meters. However, after digging more than <> meter of snow, there was still no rock mass that could be erected. After communicating with the command, they moved on.

Finally, at an altitude of 8830,<> meters, the mountaineers found a suitable rock mass. About an hour later, the erection of the weather station was completed.

This is the highest automatic weather station in the world. Previously, the highest automatic weather station was set up by British and American scientists on the southern slope of Mount Everest, with a height of 8430 meters.

With the completion of this mission, humans were able to observe meteorological data at an altitude of 8830,<> meters for the first time.

There is a famous saying in mountaineering: because the mountain is there.

Looking back at history, through dozens of years, where the mountains are, where the road is, where the Chinese ladder is, and where the Chinese mountaineers who have never stopped exploring are there. In the years that followed, the five-star red flag, which was raised high by the heroes, was unfurled again and again at the highest point on land.

The Chinese story on the third pole of the world is also alive and well with the footsteps of generations of Chinese mountaineers. (End)
