Ten-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony has declared his basketball career over. "It's time for me to say goodbye," the 38-year-old said in a video posted on social media.

Anthony, born in New York and the son of a Puerto Rican immigrant father and an African-American mother, played in the North American professional league for 19 years. The Denver Nuggets selected the forward third overall in the 2003 draft, he later played for the Knicks in his hometown, and Anthony was also under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers. The 2021/2022 season in the Los Angeles Lakers jersey was his last.

No NBA title, three-time Olympic champion

"I remember the days when I had nothing. Just a ball on a court with the dream of something more," Anthony said in the short video: "But basketball was my outlet. With this bittersweet farewell to the NBA, I'm excited to see what the future holds for me."

Although »Melo« was always one of the big stars of his sport, he never won the title in the NBA. In the 2008/2009 season, he failed with the Nuggets only in the semifinals against the LA Lakers. He was all the more successful with the national team: with Team USA, he became Olympic champion four times (2008, 2012, 2016) and took part in the Summer Games four times - a record for a basketball player. In 2012/2013, Anthony was the NBA's top scorer (average: 28.7 points) and is ninth in the all-time list of the best point scorers (28,289 points).

Anthony is considered a legend, especially in New York. He spent a total of six years with the Knicks (2011 to 2017). To this day, he holds the record for most points scored by a Knicks pro in a game. In January 2014, he scored 62 points against the Charlotte Bobcats(see all the points in the video here).
