Beforehand, Alva Svennbeck was seen as Sweden's biggest medal hope at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku. The 22-year-old also won best Swedish, but she did not advance from qualifying.

"It wasn't really one of my best performances this competition, but I'm still happy and felt that I could enjoy myself on the mat," she told the Swedish Gymnastics Federation's website.

The qualifying competitions continue on Saturday, but already it is clear that there will be no Swedes in the finals. Emma Göransson and Elina Sheremey also participated in the qualifiers.

"I ran two stable programs, but there is still room for improvement," says Göransson.
