On Monday, the Foundation's nomination committee proposed Karl-Erik Nilsson as the main candidate for the chairmanship of the Swedish Sports Confederation. Not long later, his two opponents, Anna Iwarsson and Helena Karlsson, announced that they were withdrawing.

Anna Iwarsson, chairman of the Swedish Gymnastics Federation and member of the Swedish Sports Board, believes that it was a matter of respect for the nomination committee's decision.

– I have always thought that the nomination committee is professional and has a close dialogue with the members. So when they have presented their proposal, it is very well thought out and well thought out. And in this case, Karl-Erik Nilsson was chosen.

Men in the heaviest posts

Recently, Hans von Uthmann was elected as the new chairman of the Swedish Olympic Committee and Fredrik Reinfeldt as the new chairman of the Swedish Football Association.

When Karl Erik-Nilsson is most likely to be elected as the new RF chairman at the Annual General Meeting in Uppsala in a month's time, it means that only men will sit in the three heaviest posts in Swedish sports.

Is that something you've reflected on?

–Obviously. It is very important to have role models and that we have a diversity of role models in order to create the credibility that the sports movement wants to stand for. I look forward to influencing and making a difference in that work.

"Something the entire board has to work on"

Unlike the RF chairman election, opposing candidates were present all the way to the annual meeting in the elections of SOC chairman and SvFF chairman.

Could it have been important to remain as a candidate for that reason?

"It's a very relevant question, but I think we need to work together on these issues. It may not be about just one person as in my case. Without it, the entire board must continue to work on, says Anna Iwarsson.
