This Sunday is the famous Liège-Bastogne-Liège race, with two favourites this year: Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, who seems to be in top form after his victory in the Tour of Flanders, and Belgian Remco Evenepoel. The latter will be able to count on the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, just recovered from an injury.

It is the oldest cycling classic: Liège-Bastogne-Liège, created in 1892, takes place this Sunday. Slovenia's Tadej Pogačar, who already won the Tour of Flanders earlier this month, is the favourite in an event he won in 2021. Especially since these days, when the Slovenian glutton is at the start of a race, he wins it.

Pogačar "on another planet"

Since the beginning of the month alone, the two-time Tour de France winner has won the Tour of Flanders, the Amstel Gold Race, and the Flèche Wallonne. "Impressive," admits Frenchman Victor Lafay, of the Cofidis team. "This year he's really on another planet. Already before, it was, but now, it is still a notch above. I think he's going to give us another hell of a number in Liège, that's for sure."

This Sunday, Tadej Pogačar will try to conclude his spring with another prestigious victory. In the absence of two other classics enthusiasts, Van Der Poel and Van Aert, the only one who seems to be able to compete with "Pogi" is Remco Evenepoel, outgoing winner of the Doyenne and reigning world champion.

"An honour" for Evenepoel

"To be in the most beautiful Classic of the year in the list of favorites, it's an honor," says Remco Evenepoel at the microphone of Europe 1. "It's a race of almost 6:30. You have to stay calm, just try to do as much as you can and try to win."

Against Pogačar, Evenepoel will be able to count on a luxury teammate, Julian Alaphilippe, just recovered from a knee injury, and who, at the top of his form, could also have claimed the final victory in Liège.
