Hilda Svensson had a rarely seen breakthrough in the World Cup when she had five goals and six assists in seven games and a scoring record for players under the age of 18.

The fact that she was entrusted with Sweden's strong first chain was a key to her success, she says.

"It boosts confidence when you feel that they trust you so much that they dare to put you in the first line in the first championship. Our whole chain found each other well and I thought it was very fun to play with them.

The women's crowns were widely praised for the quarter-final against Canada where they pushed the big team to extra time. This after Hilda Svensson's equalizer with nine seconds left.

"Just screamed"

"I just screamed when I saw it go in, I was so happy. It was powerful," she says.

What reactions have you had after the World Cup?

"People have written congratulations and that I've done well. But it's more people I know.

You have been widely praised for the breakthrough. What do you feel yourself?

"I don't know, it went well anyway. I didn't expect it to go as well as it did. It was great fun and a great experience.

"A new start in HV71"

At home, she is in her first year at hockey high school. Yesterday, the first day of school after the World Cup and national tests was immediately waiting.

"I was pretty tired. It becomes that you fall behind a bit when you are away so much and it is a bit difficult to catch up but you just have to do it. I get approved anyway," she says.

The club team HV71 went heavy last year and was not far from being forced to remain in the SDHL. Svensson sees himself remaining in the club during his studies and hopes for a boost.

"Now we have a new coach (Ulf Hall), and I think it will be a small new start. I think everyone in the association wants us to be better and I think they will work for that. I am motivated and it will be fun to show that we can get higher in the table.
