The Stockholm Open in the Royal Tennis Hall was held for the first time in 1969. Among the victories over the years are international stars such as Roger Federer, Boris Becker and John McEnroe. Some of the Swedes who have won the tournament are Björn Borg, Stefan Edberg and Thomas Enqvist. The last Swedish victory came in 2004 through Thomas Johansson. SVT has broadcast many of the tournaments over the years, and last year SVT broadcast for the first time since 2013.

– It was a really good tournament last year, it was appreciated by our audience that we could show tennis at a high level. We believe that interest can take further steps this year. Stockholm Open is a Swedish sports classic and we would like to broadcast when major international competitions are decided on Swedish soil, says SVT's sports director Max Bursell.

Stopping time: Stockholm Open

Last year, 19-year-old Dane Holger Rune won the final against world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas. Sweden's biggest star Mikael Ymer made it to the quarterfinals, and it is already clear that Ymer will play in 2023 as well.

"SVT's broadcasts are of great importance for the continued development of tennis in Sweden. Likewise, that we have exciting Swedish players who always become crowd favorites here at home. It is incredibly fun that we through SVT can continue to show world-class tennis even for those who do not have the opportunity to experience the tournament on site in the Royal Tennis Hall, says Jamie Perry, CEO of Stockholm Open.

SVT will broadcast from the entire Stockholm Open week on SVT1, SVT2, SVT24 and SVT Play.
