84 percent of the Allsvenskan referees who responded to SVT Sport's survey want to see the introduction of the video review system VAR in Allsvenskan.

But 18 of the clubs in Allsvenskan and Superettan have annual meeting decisions to work against a VAR introduction in Sweden, and in the stands and social media it often looks like there is a big preponderance for the no side in the VAR issue.

"There is massive resistance from the fan movement, both from the organised supporters in the stands, but really everywhere. We have seen that in every stand, and not least we have annual meeting decisions among the clubs. And it's not just standing room that goes to those meetings, says Swedish Football Supporters' Union chairman Isak Edén to SVT Sport, and adds:

"So it's really a massive resistance.

Twice as many positives

But what does the football-interested public really think? Is the opposition to VAR as massive as one might get the impression of?

No, not really, according to an opinion poll conducted by Novus on behalf of SVT Sport.

In the survey, respondents first had to indicate how interested they are in football. And there it turned out that those who answered that they are very interested or quite interested in football are significantly more positive than it is that is negative. 64 percent of those interested in football answered that they want VAR in Allsvenskan, while only 27 percent stated that they do not.

VAR can be introduced in Allsvenskan until the 2025 season at the earliest. It is the Swedish Football Association's representative meeting that makes the decision in question. There, the different districts have just over half of the votes, while the rest are divided between the federal board, the men's elite organization Sef and the women's ditto EFD.
