54-year-old Frenchman Renard will take over the French women's national team after Corinne Diacre was sacked earlier in March. Diacre had to leave as the problems within the squad became untenable, including backup star Wendie Renard going out and saying she will not play for France as long as Diacre is the manager.

Hervé Renard took over the Saudi national team in November 2019. In the Qatar World Cup, Saudi Arabia had a huge upset in the premiership as they defeated future world champion Argentina 2–1.

This summer, the Women's World Cup will be decided, with France being one of the favourites.
