- It has always been a dream to win Paris-Nice, says Pogacar, who has two overall wins in the Tour de France, to the BBC.

He was strongest up the hills in Nice and was 33 seconds ahead of Vingegaard who was second.

Dane Vingegaard won the Tour de France last year and raised interest in the sport to new heights after the first three stages of the Tour de France were run in Denmark - for the first time ever.

Overall, Pogacar won ahead of Frenchman David Gaudu with Vingegaard third.

The Dane must now adjust training to take in Pogacar ahead of the Tour de France start in Bilbao, Spain, on July 1.

"Have some work to do before the Tour de France"

- I had obviously hoped to be further up and get a little better on the mountain stages, but it also just proves that I still have some work to do before the Tour de France, Vingegaard told Ekstrabladet.

Pogacar rejoiced at the win.

- The competition here was really huge.

To be together with David Gaudu and Jonas Vingegaard on the podium is special, says Pogacar.
